
Pat Hammond
Board Member
As senior director of Communications for NRG, Pat leads external communications for the company’s Consumer – Home Energy business unit. She is responsible for strategic communication planning, public relations campaigns, crisis response and executive thought leadership for the company’s Home Energy brands in Texas and the East.
With more than 45 years in communications, including 40 years with the company, Pat has served as executive speech writer and led internal communications and video production for the company. Among her professional accomplishments are the Association of Women in Communications Headliner Award and the Federation of Houston Professional Women’s Woman of Excellence Award.
Pat is active in the community, currently serving on the advisory board for Wesley Community Center and as leader of the organization’s Community Garden team. She previously served on the board of directors of the Neartown Association and as president of the Original Hyde Park Civic Association. She is a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, where she volunteers on the Community Garden Team that grows fresh vegetables for the Heights Interfaith Ministries Food Pantry.
A native Houstonian, Pat graduated summa cum laude from Texas State University (formerly Southwest Texas State University) with a major in journalism and a minor in economics. She lives in the Heights with her husband and son
Pat’s family has a long history with Galveston Bay, as property owners on Smith Point, where four generations have fished, boated and relaxed since the 1960s.
